Das gab es in der Geschichte des Game of Skate Contests, Battle at the Berrics, noch nie! Ein Match wird komplett wiederholt und neu gestartet. Offiziell hieß es am Anfang, der Gewinner, Sean Davis, habe die Wiederholung verlangt. Doch mittlerweile haben die Berrics ein offizielles Statement veröffentlicht, das deutlich macht, dass es andere Gründe für ein Rematch gibt.
Die beide Skateboarder, und auch die Judges, nahmen es mit den sonst so penibel angewendeten BATB Regeln vor gut einer Woche nicht so genau. Man kann auch von dem „entspanntesten“ Kampf der Berrics Geschichte reden.
Allerdings kam das Game of Skate Match bei den Fans und Zuschauern nicht gut an. Die Wut auf die Berrics war teilweise so groß, dass Sean zeitweise mit den IS-Terroristen, Adolf Hitler und anderen bösen Menschen verglichen wurde.
Die Berrics sahen sich genötigt, ein Statement zu verfassen und zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte ein Rematch zu starten:
I think we failed Sean Davis last week. What I think was considered on the day, from the people who were there, and afterwards in and around the offices, to be a fun video, Shaun VS Sean, wasn’t quite taken as such by some of you out there. In fact, it created a reaction so vitriolic I was not only ashamed we failed to see how serious people take BATB, but heartbroken as this was not a skateboarding community we’ve tried to foster.
After last Sunday you would have thought Sean was ISIS, the Taliban, Hitler and Dahmer all wrapped up in one. But he isn’t. Both he and Shaun Hover are insanely nice people and friends who also never thought this lighthearted game of S.K.A.T.E. would have taken us to here; a first ever REMATCH, just to clear the air.
I apologize to both Sean Davis and @shaunhover for what happened and for The Berrics miscalculating what we thought was comical in an otherwise pretty typical first round battle. And I would at the same time like to remind everyone that with everything that’s happened in the world the last year and half, we are lucky just to be here, participating in something we all love. There are human beings on the other end of your keyboards and those human beings, I promise you, are doing the best they can just like most of you are and I hope, as a community, this year’s theme of BATB, we can come together to enhance their lives rather than try to destroy them.
